Hello, I’m Kate Jansson, the baker and owner behind The Nook, a cozy cottage bakery based in Utah county, where cakes are made to be both stunning and genuinely delicious. I’ve spent my whole life loving the kitchen and the joy that it brings not only me but those around me.
I actually started baking when I was 12, in the kitchen with my family, learning and falling in love with the way food brings people together. A few years ago, that love turned into curiosity, and I started experimenting—diving into the science behind baking, testing how ingredients, ratios, and techniques change the crumb, flavor, and texture of every cake. That mix of cozy family tradition and nerdy baking science is what shapes every recipe that comes out of my oven today. I still continue to tweak my recipes and develop new ones and am always open to trying new flavors.
The Nook started in a corner of my own kitchen, where late-night baking sessions turned into custom cakes for friends, family, and now couples and families all over town. As a 20-year-old BYU student, I balance classes with managing my own business, bringing a mix of strategy and creativity into every order I take on.
At The Nook, everything is baked in to order, with attention to detail, clean design, and flavors that feel warm, cozy, and a little nostalgic. My goal is simple: when you cut into one of my cakes, I want you to pause, smile, and think, “Wait—this tastes even better than it looks.
